Surfing the Web
Safe Surfing with the Rescue Tech, is a letter I have assembled for my clients about ways to practice safer surfing on the web.

Web of Trust, is a social based rating system for websites.  This add-in works with Internet Explorer, Fire Fox, Chrome and other browsers to help alert you to unsafe sites. (HIGHLY Recommended)

Firefox, is highly recommended as a better browser for web surfing.
Firefox Add-ons (Recommended)  With right add-on to Firefox, web surfing is much safer than with other browsers.  the Rescue Tech recommends:
  • HIGHLY Recommened add-ons
    • NoScript, "The best security you can get in a web browser!
      Allow active content to run only from sites you trust, and protect yourself against XSS and Clickjacking attacks." --G. Maone
    • FlashBlock, This prevents flash objects from running without user permission.

Chrome, is also highly recommended as a preferred browser (from Google) for web surfing.  HIGHLY Recommended add-ons include:

  • ScriptNo, "Regain control of the web and surf more securely".
  • Flashblock, "FlashBlock for Chrome. Blcok them all, or be selective with the embedded whitelist."

  • OpenDNS, 'the Rescue Tech' uses OpenDNS both at work and at home to protect his Domain Name Service, which often provides faster look-ups and allows for filtering websites to prevent accidental page views of 'undesirable sites'.
  • Speedtest.net, is a quick way to test the speed of your internet connection.
  • Speakeasy.net/speedtest, is a quick way to test the speed of your internet connection.
